-Two Bedroom (sleeps 4) apartment in an old Valencian townhouse
in the historic part of town- 10/15 minutes from the city of Gandia & Oliva
on the "Orange
Blossom Coast" Set in the foothills of the Safor mountains on
a plain surrounded by orange groves which stretch down to the sea.
The property has been modernised but has retained the original old
Valencian features.
The wide Valencian door opens onto an L shaped vaulted ceiling sitting
area to take advantage of the summer breeze. Dining area with table & seating
for 4 and a further lounge area with reverse action air con unit.
The kitchen/diner has seating for 4 and is well equipped. Modern

has recently been refurbished. The private patio which has recently
been rebuilt has large planters with mature plants and trees. For
al fresco dining there is a table & 6 chairs and a gas bbq.For
chilly weather there is ample heating provided. Essentially Spanish
speaking, the town has a bakery, a small supermarket, 2 butchers,
an English speaking Chemist and an ATM within 5 mins walk. In summer
there is an outdoor
municiple swimming pool on the edge of the orange groves.
A walk
along the backstreets and winding lanes and alleys
will bring you to the many bars and cafes. If
you can't speak Spanish, try a "Hola" to
everyone you see - you will receive a welcome
smile and a reply. Or you could walk through the
orange groves down to the river and watch the massive carp swimming
about.
Explore Oliva with its
Arab influenced area and the famous Friday market or the sophisticated
city of
Gandia (made famous by the Borgia family)- people
watch on the tree lined paseos whilst sipping a glass of
wine or coffee. There are reputed to be over 18 blue flag beaches
with soft sand (perfect for sand castles)
and shallow waters some have full sports & beach
facilities: some are quiet and backed by sand dunes and
tamerisk trees.
When you are tired of
building sandcastles, seek out the many medieval castles and
palaces
such as Xativa castle where Hannibal lived & Pope
Alexander VI (Rodrigues Borgia) was born and Peniscola, home
of El Cid and many more castles in the area. Medieval towns such
as Anna and Cuenca (cliff hanging houses) and
see the cave houses at Bocairent. If you like
car boot sales or markets you will be in your element. Play 18
hole golf in Oliva or just walk on the beautiful mountain trails.
Theme Parks(Terra Mitica/Natura & Monduver)a
Safari Park & Los
Arcos: a sanctury (relying on donations)for
rescued bears, tigers, lions, monkeys etc.)Gata
is famous for its basket weaving and nearby Ondara has the oldest
bullring in Spain.
There are cool caves
and waterfalls nearby and pleasant car rides
through vineyards, vast areas of almond and cherry trees and of
course our famous orange groves. Visit Valencia (home of Paella)
by train passing through orange groves and
paddy fields to see the recently opened L'Oceanographic & L'Hemisferic
Museums and Lazer and Imax shows the 13c Cathedral
housing the Holy Grail and the architecturally superb Indoor
Market.
Come & visit when Valencia, Gandia or Oliva hold the
Fallas Festivals(most large towns have
these festivals where massive statues are built,
displayed and then burnt at the end of the week) Moors & Christian
Festivals where real gunpowder is still used and the Spanish people
love fireworks which are let off for any celebration!
Visit Elche and the famous ancient palm forest
and the Basillica with its life size statue of
the founder of Opus Dei, Santa Josemaria Escriva. The museums
and shoe factory outlets.
Food and wine is
inexpensive and every conceivable fish is
available in the hypermarket in Gandia. We hope that you will visit
us - a warm welcome awaits you. You will love the atmosphere and
the kindness of the people - a coast as yet
untouched by mass tourism - as yet - so hush
don't tell anyone!!!
