The Mar Menor
is the largest natural saltwater lagoon in Europe and waters
sustain temperatures
of 17 degrees warmer than surrounding Mediterranean
sea along with clean waters tide free pleasant shores
all year round for bathing along with
all types of water sports. The beaches are clean and
been awarded the E.U blue flags recently and been declared
the cleanest area in Spain by the World
Health Organisation. The towns around
Mar Menor area are small and inviting, the people
friendly and accommodating. The Costa Calida with its
many golf courses and complexes being
planned are quickly turning the area in to the
golfer's paradise.
The town of Torre Pacheco is two kilometres from the resort, a
typical small Spanish town with restaurants
and bars and has excellent communication links
with Murcia and Cartagena. Los Alcazares is
approximately 4 km drive here you will find the nearest
beach and this is the largest settlement on the Mar Menor, mile
long promenade, large marina and beautiful
beaches, there also is a wide range of water
sports.
A larger centre then other towns on the coasts
with many shops bars, restaurants and shopping
mall with cinema. Murcia the capital city is
20 minutes drive steeped in history, art, architecture
and culture can be admired in natural settings or with in the
regions network of museums and has all the facilities off the
large city you would be expect to find. City
of Cartagena is a ancient seaport and naval
dockyard and is a growing commercial centre has direct communication
links with Alicante.
Activities in the area
Fiestas:
There are many fiestas in the throughout the region but of course
the
most important is timing your visit.
Local Market: Between 2-4 local markets are held every day
at various locations.
Mud Baths: There are located in several places around the Mar Menor and
are known as the largest open- air mud therapy area in
Europe.
Water Sports: Local sport activities include cycling, biking,
sailing, waterskiing, windsurfing, snorkelling and scuba
diving.
Golf: The Golf course is now full open but if you want to play you
will have to book, as you would expect from any exclusive resort
full dress code is required and golfers will have to show handicap,if
this is not possible you can be assessed but there is a charge
for this. There are many other golf courses within easy reach.
